Medication Management

While medications are not always necessary for the successful treatment and management of a mental health condition, they can be an important part of helping patients deal with symptoms and improve overall quality of life. The goal of any medication recommendation is to support the patient with symptom management at the lowest, safest, and most efficacious dose. Many considerations are taken into account when considering a prescription for any condition including patient’s medical conditions, current medications and supplementations, substance use history, a review of past medical records from other providers as well as controlled substance records, and genetic factors.

Please note that legislative regulations are subject to change concerning the prescription of controlled substances (such as psychostimulants and benzodiazepines) through telehealth practice. Many regulations requiring an in-office evaluation were relaxed during the recent Public Health Emergency and are currently under review and may necessitate an in-office evaluation in the future. This practice employs a conservative approach to medication management and only issues these type of medications when patient meets certain criteria. These medications also require consistent followup and safety monitoring including blood pressure and heart rate monitoring and are subject to random drug screening. The state’s prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) is monitored prior to every scheduled appointment.
